The Shirtdress

Enamel & Gold Merino Wool
$378

It's a shirt. It's a dress. It's a coat. It's a wearable blanket. And it has four pockets. With locally-sourced corozo buttons.

We've taken the cult-favorite New Oxford pattern and added length and fullness to create a multitasking dress that outperforms both functionally and aesthetically. Made in our signature, incredibly soft, moisture-wicking merino wool, it features gold-inset corozo buttons that run from collar to hem, allowing you to wear it as a single-piece dress or completely open as the starting point to a toasty layered look. Two side pockets, a breast patch pocket, and large front patch pocket let you to go bagless as you tackle the day.

Dee, pictured here, is 5'4" and has a 36" bust, 26" waist, and 36" hip and wears a size S. With those measurements, she could also fit comfortably in an XS.

What I'm Made of

Fabric: 100% merino wool, woven in Germany with wool from sheep living in Australia and New Zealand.
Buttons: Carved from the corozo nut, aka the tagua nut, inset by hand into a custom, gold-plated cast molded by our good friends in New York's Garment District.

How to take care of me: This garment is best dry cleaned. Ok to hand wash in cold water. Hang to dry. Warm iron as needed. Need help? Don't call mom! We got you

Why we make it:

Because we didn't want to have to choose between effortless, beautiful, and practical.

Layer it over a sweater, wear it like a wooly duster, or as a simple dress. No matter the occasion, it’s an easy decision that comes off as the most calculated choice.

Elevated Essential

Inspired by artists' smocks and oversized boys' button-downs, The Shirtdress is classic, elegant, and deeply practical.

Prepared for Everything

Two side pockets can handle your phone, wallet, charger, and keys. The breast pocket is where we keep our chapstick and phone. And the front patch pocket is large enough to hold a journal so you can quickly jot down your many moments of genius.

Meet our Merino Wool

Made in the oldest operating textile mill in Germany, our merino wool is soft, strong, and woven to keep you warm for decades. An excellent heat regulator, merino is extremely breathable and adjusts to changes in your body temperature throughout the day. It's also incredibly wrinkle-resistant, moisture-wicking, and odor-repelling, so you don't need to wash it after every use. You can learn more about this wonder-fiber and our suppliers’ compassionate sheep-care practices below.

Oh So Low-Maintenance

Because it's incredibly odor-repelling and moisture-wicking, merino does not need to be washed after every use. That's great news because the majority of a garment's impact on our environment comes not from its production, but from its time spent being washed. As long as you're not doing aerobics classes in it, you can get away with dry cleaning this dress once or twice a season.

Deceptively Detailed Buttons

No plastic here. The corozo nut, also called the tagua nut, is a natural material commonly used for carving. That makes it perfect for the tiny sculptures that are shirt buttons. As an added touch, we dye ours to match each shirt, and finish them with a gold-plated rim.
